The new David Berman album is so good that I am unable to verbalise my thoughts

But I’ll give it a go anyway.

Purple Mountains is an album by the band Purple Mountains, the new project from David Berman, formerly of Silver Jews. And it’s easily a contender for my album of the year.

Berman has been quiet since 2009, when he announced the end of Silver Jews. He wanted the band to “stop before we get bad” and had aspirations of taking down his lobbyist father, a man known as “Dr Evil” – both admirable goals. But now, 10 years later, he’s back. So, how has the decade treated him?

Six favourite albums from 2019 (so far)

As if that title wasn’t disclaimer enough – no, I have not listened to every single album released this year. Shocking, I know. I still haven’t gotten around to the new Jamila Woods album yet, even though apparently everyone loves it, and I really liked HEAVN, and I could be listening it right now, but instead I’m writing this blog post. Sorry.

Anyway, here are six albums that have been the soundtrack to my 2019, or at least my January through June.
